The Energy Label

In most energy ratings, an appliance can be deemed as an energy saving appliance if it carries with it the “A” label. An energy saving appliance with an “A” label means that the appliance is most efficient as far as energy saving is concerned. Alphabetically ordered, the least efficiency rating is labelled as “G”.

However, there are energy saving appliances today, like the refrigeration products that are labelled as A++.

Another thing that is shown in an energy label on energy saving appliances is the energy consumption and running cost. It shows how much energy is being utilized by an energy saving appliance under normal conditions.

Energy consumptions are measured in terms of kilowatt hours per year for refrigeration products. It may also be on kilowatt hours per cycle for the other energy saving appliance like the washing machines.

This can be done by multiplying the kilowatt consumption number by the average unit price of electricity. However, the actual savings can only be accounted for depending on how you utilize your energy saving appliances and how much will you pay for your electricity consumption.

Likewise, the energy label also includes the over all performance rating of energy saving appliances. This rating is similar to the energy rating of an energy saving appliance. Before giving out these ratings, the energy saving appliances are tested first through a standard industry tests.

Just like the energy ratings, the appliance with a performance rating of “A” is said to be an energy saving appliance. This is because an appliance with exceptional performance only uses a minimal amount of energy. For example, a washing machine that has a good performance on spin-drying, it will eventually lets you save on tumble drying. The more you save energy and effort, the greater you save money.

So, now that you know what energy labels are, it is best that you only buy appliances with higher rating of energy labels on it. In this way, you are not only guaranteed of greater saving with your money but also you are guaranteed of great performance.
